Yehezkiel 27:32

27:32 As they wail they will lament over you, chanting:

“Who was like Tyre, like a tower ¹  in the midst of the sea?”

Yehezkiel 28:7-8

28:7 I am about to bring foreigners ²  against you, the most terrifying of nations.

They will draw their swords against the grandeur made by your wisdom, ³ 

and they will defile your splendor.

28:8 They will bring you down to the pit, and you will die violently ⁴  in the heart of the seas.

Yehezkiel 28:18

28:18 By the multitude of your iniquities, through the sinfulness of your trade,

you desecrated your sanctuaries.

So I drew fire out from within you;

it consumed you,

and I turned you to ashes on the earth

before the eyes of all who saw you.

[27:32]  ¹ tn As it stands, the meaning of the Hebrew text is unclear. The translation follows the suggestion of M. Dahood, “Accadian-Ugaritic dmt in Ezekiel 27:32,” Bib 45 (1964): 83-84. [28:7]  ² sn This is probably a reference to the Babylonians.

[28:7]  ³ tn Heb “they will draw their swords against the beauty of your wisdom.”

[28:8]  ⁴ tn Heb “you will die the death of the slain.”
